چکیده

Hartmannella culbertsoni, a free-living soil ameba, undergoes differentiation to be transformed into a double-walled cyst when exposed to a nonnutrient medium containing magnesium ions and taurine (Raizada and Krishna Murti, 1971) . The transformation of the trophic form to mature cysts is usually preceded by a stage during induction when the ameba assumes a round and well-defined shape after the withdrawal of the pseudopodia. Evidence is adduced in this communication to show that cyclic 3', 5'-adenosine monophosphate (CAMP) can replace magnesium ions and taurine in the nonnutrient agar medium and that CAMP brings about a comparable degree of encystation of the ameba. The presence of magnesium ions and taurine has also been shown to result in a threeto fourfold increase in the rate of synthesis of CAMP by the ameba .

Cyclic nucleotide modulation of in vitro morphological transformation of Syrian hamster cells.

The cyclic nucleotides, cyclic adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cGMP) or their dibutyryl and monobrominated derivatives, may either increase or decrease morphological transformation of Syrian hamster embryo cells exposed to N-methyl-N'-nitro-N'-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). The effect on transformation is primarily a function of the parent cyclic nucleot...

Adenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate as a regulator of bacterial transformation.

Adenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate added to exponentially growing cells of Hemophilus influenzae strain Rd increases competence for transformation 100- to 10,000-fold. Cyclic AMP added to near-stationary or stationary cells does not increase competence over the high level normally found in the early stationary phase.

Changes in histone phosphorylation and associated early metabolic events in pig lymphocyte cultures transformed by phytohaemagglutinin or 6-N,2'-O-dibutyryladenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate.

1. Pig lymphocytes were transformed by dibutyryl cyclic AMP (6-N,2'-O-dibutyryladenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate) at concentrations of 0.01-0.1mum. The pattern of incorporation of label from [5-(3)H]uridine and [6-(3)H]thymidine into RNA and DNA respectively was identical with that obtained with unpurified phytohaemagglutinin. 2. Chlorpromazine (0.1mum) prevented the stimulation of [5-(3)H]u...

Expression of Recombinant Phosphodiesterase 3A and 3B Using Baculovirus Expression System

Background: Phosphodiesterase 3A (PDE3A) and phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B) play a critical role in the regulation of intracellular level of adenosine 3´,5´-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP, cAMP) and guanosine 3´,5´-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic GMP, cGMP). Subsequently PDE3 inhibitors have shown to relax vascular and inhibit platelet aggregation in cardiovascular disease. Objectives: In th...

Isolation of a 5.3-S calmodulin-deficient 3':5'-cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase from cardiac muscle.

1. In the presence of Ca2+, a 5.3-S 3':5'-cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (EC 3.1.4.17) from bovine ventricle was isolated and purified by (NH4)2SO4 precipitation and DEAE-cellulose and Affi-Gel Blue chromatography. The enzyme activity was enriched 800-fold by these procedures. 2. Sucrose-density gradient centrifugation, gel filtration and non-denaturing polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis r...
